Money management

I had an idea today.

People think that being freegan is all about getting free stuff. The truth is, I don’t know of any freegan in Singapore that lives completely independently of money. We all still spend some money somehow, because there are certain things we choose to spend money on so that we can further spread our message and the good things we do.

I mean, if you want to live completely without money in Singapore, I think it’s possible. But you would be hampered in your capability to communicate and rally others towards a cause.

I got a message today on Instagram, from someone who said that she wishes she could live like me. Well, the truth is, if you want to live like me, you need to be able to manage your money properly.

I’ve spent 10 years learning about money, how it works, and how to make it work for me. In my previous career, I was teaching people, showing them how to do the same.

When I took a break from work, I had applied everything I’ve learned, so that for the past 3 years, I haven’t had to work for money or worry about it. If all goes well, I won’t ever have to work for money again.

But not everyone in the same situation as me can say the same. That’s because I’ve got something that other people may not have.

I’ve got 10 years of learning how money works and how to make it work for me.

And the idea I had today was, what if I could continue to teach people how to manage their money better, so that they could really live like me?

Because one important thing about living like me is to reduce your dependence on money as much as you can. Given that it’s very difficult and perhaps counterproductive to live completely without money, you would still need to manage what money you have because you still need to spend it on those little things you have to spend on. Things like utilities, mobile and internet subscription, transport, medical insurance…. I think that’s about it.

Should I do this? Hmmmm….
